The short version

Stephen Root is the only actor who has confirmed a GTA VI role in his own words, telling the Associated Press on September 13, 2026 that he voices Brian Heder. That's it. That's the confirmed list.

Manni L. Perez for Lucia and Dylan Rourke for Jason are the names everyone repeats, and both now appear on IMDb and Box Office Mojo credits for the Extended Look. Neither is confirmed by Rockstar, and the Perez "confirmation" that went viral in late August traces back to an Instagram account that several outlets believe was an impersonator. Treat both as unconfirmed.

Rockstar has never made this easy. The studio publishes detailed character bios for Jason, Lucia, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Brian Heder and Raul Bautista, and lists exactly zero performers next to any of them. So the internet does what it always does: matches jawlines, compares accents, scrapes IMDb, and watches actors' social accounts for suspicious silences.

Some of that detective work will probably turn out to be right. Right now, almost none of it is verified. Here's the honest state of the cast with two months to go before the November 19 release.

How we sourced this: Confirmations here come from on-the-record interviews (Associated Press, Variety) and Rockstar's own character pages. Rumours are labelled as rumours, with the specific evidence and the specific reason it falls short. Where outlets contradict each other — as they do on Manni L. Perez — we say so rather than picking the more exciting version. Last checked: September 17, 2026.

The one confirmed casting: Stephen Root

Stephen Root — Milton in Office Space, Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in King of the Hill, Fuches in Barry — is the first and so far only actor to confirm a GTA VI role himself.

It happened on September 13, 2026, on a red carpet for the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony honouring King of the Hill creator Greg Daniels. An Associated Press reporter asked him about the speculation directly, and Root didn't dodge it.

Root told the AP that fans would be seeing him in the game, and that his character had been in there since the first rollout nearly a year earlier. He figured the secret slipped the moment King of the Hill viewers recognised his voice. Paraphrased from Root's Associated Press interview, September 13, 2026

Root plays Brian Heder, described in Rockstar's own character guide as a veteran drug runner from the old smuggling days in the Leonida Keys, still moving product out of his boat yard with his third wife Lori. Root, who happens to be a Florida native, appears alongside Jason and Lucia in the Extended Look. He also called the game an amazing thing to look at, which is roughly the reaction most people had to that 26-minute showcase.

Worth noting for context: Root confirmed this fresh off an Emmy win for Widow's Bay, and musicians including Travis Scott, Metro Boomin and T-Pain have separately acknowledged involvement with the game without detailing their parts. The wall is starting to crack, just slowly.

Lucia: the Manni L. Perez case, and why it got messy

Manni L. Perez has been the leading candidate for Lucia Caminos since the first trailer landed in December 2023. The case for her is genuinely strong on its own terms: she's a New York-based Latina actress with credits on Law & Order: SVU, Jessica Jones and Blindspot, she has publicly discussed moving into motion-capture work, and she voiced a background character in GTA Online's Diamond Casino Heist. GTA VI's performance capture was recorded on the East Coast. The face and the voice both fit.

Then late August happened. After the Extended Look dropped on August 27, an Instagram account under her name posted about the years of unseen work behind a project, and appeared to confirm the Lucia role. Outlets ran with it. Headlines declared the mystery solved.

The problem: her original Instagram account had been deactivated, and the account behind the viral post used a slightly different handle. VICE reported it appeared to be an impersonator. Perez has repeatedly deleted and restored her accounts since 2023, largely because the comment sections fill with harassment every time — she returned to Instagram on September 1 with a post that made no casting claim at all. Some reporting treats the August post as a genuine confirmation; other outlets treat it as a fake. Both positions are currently defensible, which is precisely why we're not calling it settled.

Separately, IMDb and Box Office Mojo now list Perez as Lucia in the credits for An Extended Look. That sounds official until you remember both databases accept user-submitted credits, and neither page cites production documentation from Rockstar.

Names floated for Lucia before the community settled on Perez include Alexandra Cristina Echavarri, Leslie Lluvet and Natalie Morales. Echavarri turned out to be attached to a different GTA Online character, and Lluvet publicly stated she isn't involved.

Jason: Dylan Rourke, Gregory Connors, and a Troy Baker denial

Jason Duval's casting is even less settled. The front-runner is Dylan Rourke, an American actor with guest credits on Grey's Anatomy, Station 19 and Modern Family but no breakout role. Fans picked him for the facial resemblance and the drawl, and pointed to gaps in his online activity that match Rockstar's usual NDA pattern. IMDb lists him as Jason in the Extended Look credits, with the same user-submitted caveat as above.

A competing name, Gregory Connors, circulated earlier after a reported lead-actor credit surfaced on a portfolio. Several cast roundups still list Connors rather than Rourke, so the fan consensus isn't unanimous even among the rumours.

What we can say firmly is who isn't playing Jason. Troy Baker was heavily rumoured and publicly shut it down in early 2024. Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Sonic, has also denied involvement. Those denials are on the record — unlike the castings themselves.

Why Rockstar stopped hiring movie stars

There's a reason identifying this cast takes forensic effort rather than reading a press release. Rockstar used to lead with famous names: Ray Liotta as Tommy Vercetti and Burt Reynolds as Avery Carrington in Vice City, Samuel L. Jackson as Officer Tenpenny in San Andreas.

That model got dropped after the PS2 era. Two practical problems drove it. A recognisable celebrity voice pulls you out of the character and back into thinking about the actor. And full performance capture isn't a booth job — it's months, sometimes years, in a mocap suit with a head rig, physically acting out fights, car entries and long emotional scenes. Established film stars generally can't clear that much calendar.

So from GTA IV onward the approach flipped: cast skilled, relatively unknown theatre and TV actors whose faces can be scanned directly onto the model. Michael Hollick as Niko Bellic. Steven Ogg, Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno in GTA V. Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. Every one of those performers was a near-unknown before the role and strongly associated with it afterward.

Which is exactly why Perez and Rourke fit the profile so neatly — and also why fitting the profile isn't evidence. Rockstar hires people who look like this on paper. That describes a lot of working actors.

When we'll actually get the full list

Precedent points to launch week. During GTA V's rollout, Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno and Steven Ogg were contractually unable to discuss their roles until roughly six weeks before the September 2013 release. Rockstar owns the biometric scans and performance data, and it prefers keeping attention on the characters rather than the people playing them until the marketing cycle is locked.

With GTA VI out on November 19, that puts a plausible full-cast reveal somewhere in the final pre-launch press push or the launch-week credits. Root's AP answer suggests the NDAs are loosening already. If you want the surrounding context on how big that marketing push has gotten, our breakdown of the Extended Look's Netflix numbers covers where the footage everyone's analysing actually came from.

FAQ

Who is officially confirmed in the GTA 6 cast?

Stephen Root, who told the Associated Press on September 13, 2026 that he's in the game. He voices Brian Heder, a Leonida Keys smuggler. No other casting has been confirmed by an actor or by Rockstar.

Has Rockstar confirmed who plays Lucia and Jason?

No. Rockstar has published character bios for both leads without naming a single performer. Manni L. Perez and Dylan Rourke are the names most often attached, based on resemblance, career history and user-submitted IMDb credits.

Didn't Manni L. Perez confirm she plays Lucia?

An Instagram post attributed to her in late August 2026 appeared to, and several outlets reported it as a confirmation. VICE and others reported the account involved appeared to be an impersonator, since her original account had been deactivated. The claim is contested, not settled.

Is Troy Baker in GTA 6?

No. Baker publicly denied the rumour in early 2024. Roger Craig Smith, Sonic's voice actor, has also denied involvement.

Why does Rockstar cast unknown actors instead of celebrities?

Recognisable voices break immersion, and full performance capture demands months or years of physical work in a mocap suit that established film stars rarely have time for. Rockstar switched to this approach from GTA IV onward.

When will the full GTA 6 cast be revealed?

Most likely during the final pre-launch press cycle or in the launch-week credits. For GTA V, actors couldn't speak publicly until roughly six weeks before release.
